Isla Vista Arrests
A great number of UCSB and SBCC students, their out of town visitors, and other IV party-goers are arrested throughout the year. The Isla Vista Foot Patrol is a collaborative effort by three police agencies (UCPD, CHP and the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office) to suppress rowdy behavior in this densely populated college town. While there are many more arrests in the Fall (corresponding with Fall Fraternity and Sorority Rush as well as the world-famous Halloween party on Del Playa), arrests for MIP, DUI, Drunk in Public, Fake ID, Furnishing Alcohol to Minors, and Open Container arrests and tickets are handed out nightly. Often times these contacts result in Resisting/Obstructing Arrest charges, as well as supplying False Identification to a Peace Officer. While there are certainly legitimate arrests made by the Foot Patrol, there are some searches and arrests that amount to unconstitutional intrusions into the private lives of individuals who, supposedly, live in a free society.
